luxury riding holidays

Our Luxury Riding Holidays are based on the model of a typical private luxury ski chalet, with the entire house to yourselves, most of your meals catered for, and your own private guide.  Alternatively, you can stay on a normal B&B basis with private or group riding, tailored to your specific requirements.

You'll quickly become part of a warm and friendly family home, you'll never be just another customer.

Mary has always kept horses ("no point in living up here without them" she says) and yours live  just a ten minute drive away. Privately owned, not publicised, we think that they're are best hirelings on Dartmoor.

You can spend as long as you like in the saddle - going out for a couple of hours, or all day for several days running,  stopping at pubs for lunch, and covering up to twenty miles of the best riding that Dartmoor has to offer each day.  Or we can even offer a 'Ride the Two Moors' break, giving you a taste of both Dartmoor and Exmoor. You will be based at Exmoor's most luxurious and horsey hotel, located right in the middle of the moor.

The ultimate mother-daughter break, a memory to treasure forever for a horse-loving couple; or for a single rider, with or without non-riding friends and partners!

Mary will organise every aspect of your stay, and will make sure that non-riders have a great time too!

Our horses are so nimble and well trained that you can leave them to find their own way across the moor, while you chat and admire the spectacular views - or simply close your eyes and hang on to the neck-strap!
Our 20-mile routes mean a long day in the saddle, covering wide open, steep, rocky and uneven terrain, at pace. So it's important that you're happy riding at speed, or you might miss lunch!

most remote luxury B&B in southern england

Originally used as a fishing lodge, Wydemeet is unusual for Dartmoor in that it was built for pleasure, so it benefits from big windows with wonderful views, and boasts light and airy rooms.

Mary has been running Wydemeet, her family home, as a very successful luxury B&B for over seven years.

She's given over her best two south-facing rooms to B&B guests, so that she can accommodate a maximum of four visitors.

The two bedrooms, double or twin, are decorated in 'Jane Austen Romantic' style, in sympathy with her period home. They're both en-suite and dual-aspect, with huge windows and window seats, looking out across the horses' field, garden, trees and countryside.

"The road less travelled"

The Road Less Travelled
Wydemeet is probably the most remote B&B south of the Watford Gap!

The house is positioned at the end of a dead-end lane, right in the middle of Dartmoor,
yet it's just 20 minutes' drive from the A38.

fine dining

Local, newly laid, poached eggs with hollandaise, warm wilted spinach, crushed avocado, smoked salmon and creme fraiche, on Mary's toasted home-made bread, will keep you going all day, across even the most demanding terrain! Or whatever else you fancy -  AGA cooked to order.

Return home to tea and cakes in front of a roaring log fire, followed by a calm moment on the patio with a well-earned glass of fizz.

Drinks and canapes are served in the comfortable sitting room, and the day finishes with a gourmet candlelit four-course dinner in Wydemeet's elegant dining room, complete with family antique cut glass and silver.
